So, I’m the Creative Director to Respect My Celebrity. We are a group of friends that want to take our stab at the ever growing independent apparel & fashion industry. To say the least its been a really good learning experience. I’ll admit though, when I was asked to be the CD, I thought all I had to do was worry about everything design related. I knew that was going to be a lot already. However, I find myself putting my thoughts into marketing plans and more business related issues. It’s really interesting trying to start a company from the ground up. Luckily I’m working with a talented group with a lot of connections. Now only if we could make use of them all, that would be ideal.
Currently , we’re trying to do everything for as cheap as possible (obviously). We’re going to be running with bigcartel.com for the store front. For most other things we’re going with google. Google apps, google calendar, google docs, and google groups. as we turn every stone to get to our goal, I’m going to try to write about our steps. I want to do this for a good laugh later and so everyone else can see what to or not to do. Once we get our official blog going, I’ll migrate (copy + paste) the post over there. In no way do I intend for this to be a guide to starting a business with friends. One last thing about that, when we started we were all split up. I was in California with one other member, a few others were in the Northern Virginia/DC area, 1 was still in school in Richmond, VA, and we used to have a member in New Jersey.
As always, we’ll see how this goes.

On a better note, I finally finished up designing the cover and back of Dj Mike Rizzy. I’ll be posting that up pretty soon. Also the social network I made for my family using Ning is going pretty well. Relatives I haven’t seen/met yet are joining.
Back to codes I go…
So I was asked to make a family website. What was asked was basically to remake Facebook but have it private for the family. You know they want to message eachother, have profiles, etc. It’s family so of course it’s hard to say no and/or explain how its not that easy to just make a social networking site.
Well that’s what I thought until I kicking it with my homie google. I think i’m going to use Ning. If you haven’t heard of it, you can basically make a social networking site of your interest. From reading the about and looking at some of the example sites, it looks legit. It even has templates, so I won’t have to do everything from scratch and I can always just edit the CSS if needs be. As much as I don’t like using templates, they do save time, which I do like. Besides, I’m making the site for the family. So that basically means I’m not getting paid for it. Adsense, you say? For a monthly yeah for sure. Maybe I’ll add adsense if the family actually uses the site.
I have deleted all prior post and have decided to change this blog around. Until I finish my website, this blog will host my portfolio and my blog entries will solely be design related. Ranging from influences to things that I just like.
